COVID-19's effects on Latin American economies

Prior to the COVID-19 outbreak, the International Monetary Fund (IMF) estimated that global growth in 2020 would reach 3.5%. However, this scenario changed radically in the light of the current health crisis. As a result, a significant global contraction is projected for 2020, even worse than during the 2008-2009 financial crisis. Latin America will not be the exception, as a strong impact to this region is expected for 2020, in addition to the fact that the region's growth outlook was already weak prior to the COVID-19 outbreak.
